Physician or Manager?

Whether in the operating room or the consultation
room, a physician's time is most profitable and rewarding when spent
with patients. If you find yourself worrying about inventories,
paying bills, negotiating lease agreements, or ordering supplies
-or constantly managing your staff to do so- you are incurring a
cost of opportunity. Nor should a solo physician with a single clinic
require a manager with a hefty salary who provides no direct service
to clients and is thus purely a cost centre. A combination of task
standardization and employee empowerment can be utilized to build
a relatively self directed work team who can identify and assign
many of these operational duties in a seamless manner. To blindly
hand your responsibilities over to workers who are not ready, however,
can lead to loss of money and other disastrous outcomes. Please

the burden of day to day management so that you can focus on strategic
goals and client care. |
